In order to achieve horizontallypolarized shear wave (SH wave), SH wave angle transducers with 2-2 piezoelectric composite chips has been developed. A small diameter austenitic stainless steel tube calibration block and reference block with artificial defects are tested by the developed SH wave probe to study the attenuation and signal to noise ratio of SH wave. Experimental results show that SH wave based on 2-2 piezoelectric composite chips can achieve the purpose of testing defects in weld of small diameter austenitic stainless steel tube. The defect detection sensitivity and the signaltonoise ratio are relatively high.
